The Most Popular Home Trends This Year

In this short read, learn about some of the top trends which are currently shaping our home habits and discover some of the trends set to make waves in the future.

Here are 5 of the hottest trends and styles in South Devon this year:

1. Naturals and neutrals – White, ivory, taupe, beige and grey have majorly come back into fashion in recent years and this love for a natural tone shows no sign of changing any time soon. Millennial and Gen Z buyers are some of the biggest fans of these neutral colours, along with natural textures such as wicker, linen, stone and light wood.

2. Flexible spaces - As recent years have highlighted, rooms in our homes now need to be multi-purpose. Home offices are now very common, and with a bit of careful planning, that space in the corner of your living room could be turned into a study/work/play area.

3. Sustainability - As climate concerns continue to feature more highly in people’s thinking, it’s predicted that homeowners will aim to make their homes more sustainable and energy-efficient. Think double-glazing, eco smart meters, energy-saving tech such as low-flow shower heads and increased insulation. Gardens will also play a huge part in this as we seek to maximise their use for growing our own produce and optimising for wildlife.

4. Built to last - With fast assembly furnishings still exceptionally popular, will we begin to change our habits to align with our climate concerns? Interior design experts have predicted that we will start buying higher quality, longer-lasting furniture. It’s a bit like choosing a good estate agent to sell your home, it may cost more, but you won’t regret it in the long run.

5. Minimalism – It’s looking like we will focus more and more on functionality within our homes – if you haven’t used an item in the past 6-12 months, it’s time to declutter and create more space in your home.
Whatever happens in the next 12 months, we’re confident that the South Devon property market will continue to see a lot of activity and price growth.

Even if you aren’t set on moving just yet, consider taking inspiration from some of the trends above. Doing this will hopefully add value to your home in the long run so that when you do come to move, you’ll get the best price for your home.
